Can we discuss our fears about AI with an AI?
Description:
Around 2017, popular AI products like Siri and Alexa chiefly listened to user commands and responded. This interactive installation reversed that by having the AI actively ask visitors questions, and rather intimate ones, including: What makes you happiest? What would you be scared of forgetting? Would you trust an artificial intelligence to choose your friends?
The visual design avoided classical UI elements and illustrated the conversations through an oracle-like-scene of a well of water and stones. This approach embodies the artificial intelligence as the water itself. Therefore, its presence is not limited or rigid, but ubiquitous. All user statements are collected and presented through “data sculptures”. The installation was used by thousands of museum visitors and started a dialogue about the role emerging technologies might play in the way people connect as a community in the future.
