How do AI agents collaborate when nobody tells them exactly what to do?
And can language models (not image models) create visual work together?

Description:
I gave 50 autonomous agents a shared pixel-art canvas. Each agent looks at what’s already there, decides what to draw and where, and builds it line by line using simple drawing tools, reasoning through coordinates and self-correcting along the way.

What surprised me was how naturally they coordinated: claiming space, choosing different subjects, filling gaps, and slowly building something that feels a little bit like a shared world.

The interesting tension: with zero structure, things quickly become messy. But with too much direction, it stops being collaboration. The design work was shaping the conditions, not controlling the outcome.

Inspired by r/place, I’m calling it r/agentplace.
